I offer private counselling sessions from a comfortable and relaxing room in both York city centre and Selby. Over the past three years I have been involved in different organisations and currently work as an Associate Counsellor for Invivo Therapies and a Volunteer Counsellor for York Mind.

Prior to my counselling career, I was a mental health nurse in the NHS supporting people with distressing experiences in hospital and the community. I have the skills and knowledge to support people at both times of crisis as well as through more ongoing difficulties in their lives.

Counselling

What I can offer

I offer a safe space to explore personal and emotional problems. I work at a persons own pace to help them understand their difficulties and change things for the better.

This may include specific problems like anxiety and depression or could be something more general that is harder to put into words. Whatever the issue, we would work together to make sense of what is happening and look to improve things in your life.

  • Anxiety, depression
  • Stress, self-esteem
  • Self-harm, suicidal thoughts
  • Loss, bereavement
  • Anger
  • Bullying, discrimination
  • OCD, panic, phobias
  • Addictions
  • Trauma, dissociation
  • Relationships, loneliness
  • Feeling lost, confused, unsure of how you feel

About Counselling

A session lasts for 50 minutes and takes place on a regular basis (usually weekly) at an agreed time and location. It can be hard to predict how long counselling may last with some people wanting six sessions to other people preferring counselling for a number of months. I will discuss this with you when we first meet and throughout our work together.

Therapeutic Approach

There are many different ‘types’ of counselling, but they all share the aim of helping people through personal difficulties. If you are new to counselling please get in touch and I can explain in more detail what counselling with me would be like.

If you are familiar with counselling and looking for a certain type of approach, I work as an integrative and relational therapist that draws upon psychodynamic, person-centred, transactional analysis, gestalt and existential theories.
