BSc (Hons), PG Dip, Adv Dip, MBACP
I work from two comfortable rooms in my private practice, one at the York Clinic for Integrated Healthcare and the other at Wetherby Therapy Rooms. I have extensive experience in helping people through personal difficulties, with the skills and knowledge to provide support on a variety of different issues.
My background involves helping people access low-cost counselling services and projects offering short term therapeutic support or sign-posting to other health services. Before training as a counsellor, I also worked as a mental health nurse in the NHS and private hospitals.
- Advanced Diploma in Humanistic Integrative Counselling
Adv Dip (2019) CPPD Counselling School, London
- Post Graduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing
PG Dip (2012) King’s College London
- Psychology Degree
BSc (Hons), (2008) University of Leeds
I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) who ensures its members adhere to their ethical framework, so you receive a high standard of counselling or therapy.
Counselling & Therapy
I offer a safe space to explore personal and emotional problems. I work at a person’s own pace to help them understand their difficulties and change things for the better.
This may include specific problems like anxiety and depression or could be something more general that is harder to put into words. Whatever the issue, we would work together to make sense of what is happening and look to improve things in your life.
The types of issues we can work on are…
- Anxiety, depression
- Stress, self-esteem
- Self-harm, suicidal thoughts
- Loss, bereavement
- Bullying, discrimination
- OCD, panic, phobias
- Trauma, dissociation
- Relationship problems, loneliness
- Feeling lost, confused, unsure of how you feel
Sessions last for 50 minutes and take place on a regular basis (usually weekly) at an agreed time and location.
It can be hard to predict how long therapy may last. Some people want six sessions of counselling to address a specific problem, whilst others use therapy over a number of months to explore more complex issues. I will discuss this with you when we first meet and throughout our work together.
There are many different “types” of therapy, but they all share the aim of helping people through personal difficulties. If you are new to therapy, please feel free to get in touch and I can explain in more detail, what I can offer.
If you are familiar with therapy and looking for a certain type of approach, I work as an integrative counsellor that draws upon relational, person-centred, transactional analysis, gestalt, psychodynamic and existential theories.
